i watched the prestige and chinatown this weekend, both for the first time. Chinatown was pretty good. i like the water issue plot, and also the stuff about the lady, mrs mullvane (Faye Dunaway). and Prestige was really good, i thought.

I've never been crazy about anime but I thought "Paprika" was excellent.

Spirited Away is the only tolerable anime I've seen and it blew me away mindgame is tolerable. it's no spirited away though. many people will tell you that mindgame is the best movie of the past decade. they are wrong, so don't expect much. while on the subject, i saw todd barry recently and one of his best new jokes: "I go on that myspace sometimes and sometimes you get confronted with strange new information on there. For example, I didn't know that Donnie Darko was the best movie ever made."

I have to say that I loved Mindgame. Few movies leave me with a sense of excitement at the end - and not excitement about the movie, but excitement about LIFE. Not to mention the sheer creativity of the animation; while Spirited Away is brilliant and perfectly animated, I found Mindgame's mishmash of styles much more interesting to watch.
With Ghibli films you expect a certain level of quality (that is to say, untouchable), but Mindgame succeeded because it came out of nowhere, and had no expectations to contend with. I won't say one film is better than the other, but Mindgame left a big impression with me.

I think so. Guy dies, meets god, gets a second chance at life, gets eaten by whale, etc...

Zodiac is the best police/crime investigation i can remember ever watching. i grabbed a beer before we put it on, and i didn't get thirty seconds of mild downtime or disinterest to grab a second one.
watch it. fincher knows his stuff.
