Five unfortunate flashbacks of last week's journalism party brought to me by the previous post:
1) Linger by the Cranberries on cable karaoke 2) Car Wash (by who?) on cable karaoke 3) Baby got Back by Sir Mix a Lot on cable karaoke 4) the sudden revelation that most karaoke songs have terrible lyrics 5) the sudden revelation that Baby Got Back has a second verse (one in which he refers to himself GRAPHICALLY in third-person) that actually led to a full minute of awestruck/disturbed silence
Five ways I attempted to spell 'karaoke' just now before googling it:
1) kareoke
2) careoke
3) Kareoeke
4) karoeke
5) OH SHIT

my top five favorite moments on joanna newsom's Ys
5. "your feast is to the east which lies a little past the pasture" 4. the very end of "cosmia" where she sings wordlessly 3. "awful atoll, oh incalcuable indiscreetness and sorrow" etc 2. "squint skyward and listen..." 1. "and in the moment i slept i was swept up in a terrible tremor" etc.
also, the part where bill callahan sings backup in "only skin" is pretty fucking good.

five deeply disturbing things I learned today:
1) Apparently scientists have discovered WE CAUSED GLOBAL WARMING. 2) I have twenty-seven days to record an album 3) I haven't written anything yet. 4) I spend too much time here ? 5) iTunes 7 removed all the spaces they added to the ends of songs in previous incarnations and it dropped over 3GBs of data. What the hell? Apple added LOSSLESS SPACES? Anyone else find this strange?

the global warming thing is really fucking disturbing, especially after seeing an inconvenient truth (which you should seek out).
and that's pretty weird about the spaces added to the ends of songs. i didn't know itunes did that.
general top 5 of today:
5. being inside instead of outside 4. guided by voices' universal truths and cycles 3. the song i am writing called "bluffing insects." 2. the cover art for tears of the valedictorian 1. my mom's 50th birthday shindig

top five final moments in ALL OF FILM (that i have seen and remember right now and i realise they're pretty much considered the best movies ever made; settle down, they have great endings.)
5. goodfellas - joe pesci fires at the camera for no reason, referencing the great train robbery. in comes sid vicious. brilliant. 4. full metal jacket - the mickey mouse club theme! after like 45 minutes of trying to kill a sniper. holy shit. 3. the good the bad and the ugly - HEY BLONDE!!! YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE!!!?? holy shit. brilliant. 2. titus - homeboy walks away for a good minute or so. sun rises; freeze frame. brilliant. 1. butch cassidy and the sundance kid - jesus christ. their conversation before they rush out pretty much makes me cry every time i see it. it's the best dialogue ever written for film and the best ending for a hundred years i guarantee it.
