i was at the dc show, pleasantly surprised to hear so much this night (album), is this typical? was always my favorite . . self portrait with thing was an amazing closer & whoever was mentioning man man, yes, quite mindblowing. i've seen them twice before, but the album release show was just fucking ridiculous . . . seeing the national for the first time this week god knows why they're playing at a PA christian college, but i won't question these things . .

that was my little letdown, i was looking forward to lots of this night, and there were only a few. my only little letdown was in finally realizing that the orange he carries around is really just one of those cleverly disguised shakers and not the actual fruit

seeing modest mouse on monday, unexpectedly. scored free tickets. they better play "teeth like god's shoeshine." i've seen them a couple times over the years, but not since "float on."
their shows always left me a bit underwhelmed. we'll see, i guess!

is it part of the national/rem/modest mouse thing?

no, i unfortunately. just modest mouse, and the openers are either unknown or they're deliberately keeping me in the dark.
i don't like the national, but r.e.m. was my first favorite band and they will always hold a special place in my musical heart. i've never seen them live, and the prospect of doing so actually doesn't excite me too terribly much (i'm more of an 80's r.e.m. guy, y'know back when they were the best band on the planet). but yeah, getting into an r.e.m./modest mouse gig for free would pretty much rule.

modest mouse last night: great setlist, all things considered. it was heavy with stuff from lonesome crowded west and light on the new album. the sound was muddy and rendered every song a guessing game for about 20 seconds.
Truckers Atlas (yeah!) Satin in a Coffin Dance Hall Paper Thin Walls (woo!) Dashboard King Rat (this b-side is my favorite of their new stuff, but i didn't even recognize it until it was half over) Wild Pack of Family Dogs (rockin'!) Dramamine (with Life Like Weeds outro) (oh man, this was the highlight of the show) Teeth Like God's Shoeshine (i was hoping they'd do it, and by god they did. great, even if they cut it a bit short). We've Got Everything The View The Good Times are Killing Me The Whale Song (apparently this is a new song. it was slow and spacey ala "dramamine" but didn't make an impression) Trailer Trash (nice) Tiny Cities Made of Ashes
Encore: Broke (this song owns, of course) Bury Me With It Doin' the Cockroach Little Motel
