i still don't see the animal collective reference which is fine; apples and bananas. i like them both. they build songs around similar instrumentation/production/indistinct vocalization. obviously carey doing this kind of thing is not going to really sound anything like animal collective, but it does hint at it more than most of his other work. less rock, more folk. although "a feeling: i feel it" is frog eyes' most pearl jam moment ever. didn't carey cite animal collective as an influence on this, or at least in general?

Yeah, back when Carey was "I don't name-drop bands I like" he eventually let out that he liked Animal Collective. And now Pitchfork comes straight out and he's dropping names like they are hot.
Whiskey's not refreshing though, it's repulsive.

Whiskey's not refreshing though, it's repulsive. I strongly disagree. As to the EP I've enjoyed it far more since visiting this board and giving it another chance but as far as the songs go I agree they don't "get" to where I expect they should. This, to me, is only listenable as an album. Far too short. Unfortunate, since there are beautiful bits to it.

Sheldon is still one Frog Eyes' greatest songs ever Even if its a little underdeveloped agreed. and your cover of it is awesome. i'm listening to the EP now and i think it's a frog eyes release in name only. it's self-produced and lists no other band members than carey; it's blackout beach!

Over last summer/early autumn I kept it in my car for about 2 straight months. I hadn't felt much of a connection for this one prior to that, but it clicked, and I just couldn't get enough of it.
